6th Grade Internet Research

Today, we’re working on some online researching skills. One of the sites that we’ll use is Britannica for Schools. We’ll need a special login and password that I’ll give you in class. Click the link below to head to that site.

Besides just using Google, think about trying Kiddle, which is a kid-friendly search engine that should help bring you good sites for research.

When we use someone else’s information, we need to CITE where it comes from. This means someone else will be able to look at where we got our information, so we know we’re all looking at the same thing. This is what a citation looks like:

“Buddhism.” Britannica School, Encyclopædia Britannica, 5 Aug. 2019. school.eb.com/levels/elementary/article/Buddhism/352887. Accessed 9 Dec. 2019.

I can be difficult to remember how to format a citation properly (even for adults / college students). Some sites, like Britannica have built in citation tools. There are lots of free websites that will help you do this. Such as Citation Generator. Let’s look at how that works.
