WACO’s 6th grade class is working on research projects about specific decades. This is in conjunction with the “Read Through the Decades” Ream A Million Minutes event this February. Students will be using their research to create a narrated video slideshow. Below is an example of what a finished product might look like. Here is a link to an outline that can be used with the project. In the video, we’ll want to pay close attention to the opening and closing to see how it would fit in our outline.
We’ll be using the online video editing tool, WeVideo, to create our projects.
One things that will be very important for this project is proper use of images found online. Not everything you find on the internet can be used for projects like this. You must be aware of copyright law when creating a project like this. Here is a short video that explains what copyright is:
For the images that we are going to use in the projects, we need to make sure we are being mindful of copyright law. That means that we need to find images that are either public domain, or that give your permission to use through the creative commons. Here are some ways you can search for images:
Google Image Search (labeled for reuse)
https://commons.wikimedia.org/
https://search.creativecommons.org/
You need to make sure you actually download the image files. We’ll be uploading those to your WeVideo project. Do not just copy and paste images into a Google Doc–you will not be able to get to them later if you do that. Here is a quick video showing how to download images properly from a Google image search:
Good luck with the project. I’ll stop and and support as you’re working on it. If I’m not in the building, please email with any questions you think I could help with. GLHF!
